Wooden furniture is made with different finishes and each should be cleaned in different ways.
For daily wood care follow these rules.
1. Dust in the direction of the grain to help keep its natural patterns.
2. Use a soft clean cloth, preferably a microfibre one as they hold onto the dust, so you’re not shifting it from one spot to another.
3. Spray polish should be used sparingly, as over time it dulls the wood and also leaves a sticky residue. Many people use it for the smell and if this is you, get some air freshener instead.
Painted Wood
Use washing up liquid mixed with warm water.
Stained Wood
Damp dust only.
Unsealed Wood
Use a wrung out cloth from a bowl of warm soapy water and dry immediately with a clean cloth.
Varnished Wood
Damp dust, for tough stains use warm soapy water and dry off. Use a little polish after sprayed onto a cloth and not the furniture.
Veneered Wood
Clean with care. The top layer may or may not be varnished, only if varnished clean with a damp cloth otherwise dry dust.
Waxed Wood
The best thing is a ready made soapy wood cleaner. Dry off afterwards.
Only use beeswax on non lacquered wood, otherwise it won’t soak in and is a waste of this expensive product.
